DoD Small Business Workshop

The Department of Defense Office of Small Business Programs, Howard University and the DC Chamber of Commerce have joined forces to host a Small Business Workshop. This event features an exciting lineup of speakers from DoD and industry. Topics that will be covered include policy changes, DoD cybersecurity requirements and mentor-protégé programs.

There is no cost to attend; however, seating is limited and advance registration is required.

TRANSPORTATION
Parking Lot ($10 cash required): Parking is available at a surface lot located at “2235 8th St NW, Washington, DC 20001.” This is a private lot; the fee for parking is $10. Parking attendants will only accept cash as payment.

 

Metro: The closest metro to the venue is the Howard-Shaw metro stop on the Yellow & Green line.

 

Shuttle (Shaw-Courtyard): Howard University will allow workshop attendees to use the "Shaw-Courtyard" Howard shuttle. If you use the shuttle, please show the driver your Eventbrite ticket. The shuttle runs every 15-20 minutes beginning at 7 am. The shuttle will pick up outside (1) the Howard-Shaw metro stop on Georgia Ave. and (2) the Howard University Barnes & Noble Bookstore at “2225 Georgia Ave NW, Washington, DC 20059.” The drop-off point for the shuttle is in front of the Crampton Theatre, which is across the street from the Howard University School of Business.

This opening session sets the tone, providing an introduction to DoD small business programs and the event partners who make the effort to provide resources to local small businesses.

9:30 - 10:30am: Cybersecurity: How new updates may affect your Small Business
During this general session, Cybersecurity Subject Matter experts share the most current cybersecurity requirements, the effect they are predicted to have on small businesses and what steps you should take to meet compliancy. 

10:30 - 10:40am: Refreshment Break
Coffee, tea, and light refreshments provided

10:40 - 11:30am: What’s Next? Category Management Discussion Panel
A session designed to update small business owners about Category Management and answer questions about how the change will affect doing business with the federal government.

11:30am - 12:30pm: Mentor Protégé Program Panel
A panel discussion to highlight the important differences between the DoD and SBA Mentor Protégé program, and the potential benefits of each program. 

12:30 - 2:30pm- Optional Networking Session
Coffee, tea and light refreshments provided

Please join us for this optional networking session. This session allows workshop participants to connect with local small businesses, industry, DoD and other defense Agency representatives and Participants of the Mentor Protégé Program.
